Poster for our 5-year anniversary celebration!

Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer is locally owned, operated, and located in the heart of downtown Charleston, SC.

Our focus is to offer our guests a high quality beverage experience here in our café or outside in our lovely courtyard. We roast our own specialty coffee on a Diedrich IR-12 at our roasting facility located at 708 King Street and offer a rotating list of single origin coffees as well as espresso.

As of our last renovation in July 2013, we increased our wine selection and offer over 20 taps of craft beer from our local breweries as well as from breweries throughout the U.S. and Europe. We also offer pints of cask ale daily, hand-pulled through our beer engine, which is now a permanent fixture here at Kudu.

Our coffee and beer programs are complimented by a choice selection of teas and fruit juices, as well as pastries and sandwiches, which are prepared fresh daily by Wild Flour Pastry, Normandy Farm Artisan Bakery and Saffron Bakery.

In our shop you will not find Wi-Fi, but you will find a great space to sit down with friends and family to have a lively conversation over a delicious beverage. If you’re coming alone, belly-up to the bar and strike up a conversation with one of our fine folks behind the counter or with one of our regulars. We hope to see you soon and we hope to offer you an enjoyable experience here at Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer!

  • It's all good!

We've come a long way, but we dream big. Stay tuned!

  • Level Up

As part of the renovation, we added a dozen more taps, bringing us up to 22, and bolstered the wine offerings. We dedicated one of the 22 to kombucha, and the other to locally-produced Cannonborough Beverage Company soda. Again, coffee followed suit, growing all the time. Our last major addition was the cask program, implemented in December of 2013. We now regularly pour cask-conditioned beer from a hand-pumped beer engine alongside our regular keg taps. Learn more about the cask program here.

  • Renovation

By August of 2013, we had been in the space for three-and-a-half years. It was time for a change. We gutted the interior and rearranged our entire setup, improving the flow for both our staff and our customers. We're talking new floors, a new color scheme, and a small bar better-suited for beer service. Patio renovations went along with this, allowing for more and better seating. When we reopened, the place was barely recognizable (in all the right ways).

  • The First Taps

Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer was truly "born" in October of 2011 when we installed our first four-tap system for craft beer. As it turns out, we created a malty monster. Six more taps were added the following April, and we scaled back on bottles/cans as we watched our patrons gravitate more towards the draft selections. Coffee and espresso were climbing right along with it.

  • Wet Feet

Once we got our feet wet (probably from spilled lattes), we introduced a small wine selection alongside 25 bottles and cans of craft beer. The response to this combo was positive, and we were thrilled to bring these beloved beverages together under one roof.

  • Beginnings

Our location at 4 Vanderhorst Street originally opened as Kudu Coffee House in August of 2005 for what turned out to be a roughly four-year run. They shuttered on January 29, 2010. That same day, we scooped it up and reopened on February 1st.
